New Attorney
Advertising Rules

The Iowa Supreme Court recently approved significant changes to the rules governing attorney advertising. The changes are the culmination of a process that began in November 1999 when the Iowa State Bar Association petitioned the Court for certain amendments to the advertising rules. The Court accepted many of the Bar's proposals, adopted suggestions received from comments to the rules, and made additional changes of its own. The new rules take effect on February 15, 2002.  They can be viewed on the judicial department's web site, under "Attorney Advertising Rules (10/31/01)" at  http://www.judicial.state.ia.us/orders/orders/ .

Renumbered Court Rules

On November 9, 2001, Iowa Supreme Court Chief Justice Louis Lavorato signed an order approving the renumbering of the Iowa Court rules.  The renumbered rules include the Iowa Rules of Criminal Procedure, which are now numbered 2.1 through 2.76.  The renumbered version takes effect February 15, 2002.  For now, the rules can be viewed on the Supreme Court's web site at www.judicial.state.ia.us .  PATC is reproducing the rules on diskette in Adobe Reader format (linked and searchable) which should be available by mid December.

TWO VETERAN COUNTY ATTORNEYS
WILL NOT
SEEK RE-ELECTION

Although they have more than a year left on their terms, two long-time Iowa County Attorneys have announced they will not seek re-election in 2002.  Well-liked and well-known to most prosecutors in Iowa, and each a past president of ICAA, Denver D. Dillard, Linn County Attorney, and Richard P. TeKippe, Chickasaw County Attorney, will leave our ranks after many years of fine service to their communities and the State of Iowa.

Rich has 26 years of prosecution experience, all but three of it as Chickasaw County Attorney.  Denver began as Linn County Attorney in 1983 and served as ICAA President in 1993.  Rich held the office in 1991.

Thank you, gentlemen.  You will be missed.

THANK YOU, MIKE

Michael Riepe, Henry County Attorney for 23 years, will end a decade of service on the Board of Directors of the Iowa State Association of Counties at the end of 2001.  He ends his tenure as a Past President and worked over the many years to open and maintain lines of communication between Iowa County Attorneys and the many ISAC affiliates.

Thanks Mike for your dedication and efforts.
