Woodbury County, Iowa, a governmental unit as prescribed by the Iowa Code, will accept applications in
Room 701 of the Woodbury County Court House, 620 Douglas Street, Sioux City, Iowa, for the
following position:

COUNTY ATTORNEY DEPARTMENT             

TITLE:  Asst. County Attorney                                SALARY RANGE:  $50,347 - $58,225/yr.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

Prosecuting attorney representing the State of Iowa, Woodbury County, and the Woodbury County
Attorney in the professional, aggressive and ethical handling of assigned cases and investigations. 
Performs with excellence all attorney functions in assigned cases, including all phases of trials, hearings, depositions, investigatory evidence-gathering procedures, and other proceedings; makes appropriate
charging and other decisions; exercises good judgment in the disposition of cases consistent with
justice, public safety, the well-being of victims and applicable law; prepares and files court documents
and pleadings; performs excellent legal research; competently evaluates evidence; interviews witnesses
and evaluates witness demeanor and credibility; assists law enforcement officers in criminal investigations; communicates effectively; gives after-hours advice by telephone to law enforcement officers; operates word-processing computer terminal equipment; complies with all office policies; performs related professional
duties as required by the County Attorney.  Full-time position.

APPLICANTS MUST MEET THE FOLLOWING REQUIREMENTS:

A completed County application form and a resume are required.  Must be of good
moral character and fitness and be licensed by the Iowa Supreme Court to practice law
in the State of Iowa.  Must pass a background investigation, physical exam and drug
screening prior to employment.
 Must also be an effective advocate and communicator and possess
keen analytical skills; have empathy for crime victims and citizens dealt with; be professional in appearance
and demeanor; be able to work well with others and treat others with respect, patience and dignity; possess
good knowledge of the general principles of criminal and civil law, of relevant Iowa Code sections, of the
Iowa Rules of Evidence, Criminal Procedure, and Civil Procedure, the Iowa Code of Professional Responsibility
For Lawyers, and Federal and Iowa constitutional law principles relating to criminal procedure and criminal
law; possess good knowledge of effective trial practice methods, tactics, strategy and procedures.
